Italics Generator

Generate italic, bold italic, script, and fancy Unicode text styles. Copy and paste italic text for Instagram, Discord, Twitter/X, and more.

Why Use Italics Generator?

Italics have meaning in editorial writing — they set off book titles, foreign words, emphasis — but the platforms you post on daily (Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok) strip out HTML/Markdown italic. Unicode Mathematical Italic gives you real italicized characters that survive paste. The generator also produces 11 decorative siblings (script, fraktur, double-struck, monospace) so you can pick one that fits the tone — script for wedding invite vibes, fraktur for metal-band usernames, monospace for developer handles. Since these are codepoints not fonts, they render the same on iOS, Android, desktop, and even Minecraft chat.

How to Use Italics Generator

  1. Type or paste your text in the input area above. All 12 italic and fancy text styles are generated instantly.
  2. Browse the style grid to find the italic, script, or decorative style you prefer.
  3. Click the Copy button next to any style to copy it, then paste it into Instagram bios, Twitter/X posts, Discord messages, LinkedIn updates, or anywhere else.
  4. For platforms that strip styling (Discord code blocks, Facebook KYC forms), test before posting — Unicode italic survives most but not all.
  5. Italic Unicode is great for emphasis on a single word in a Twitter/X reply or LinkedIn comment — pick a sans-serif italic so it stays readable.

Worked Examples

Italicized book title in a tweet

Input
reading "Dune" again
Output
reading "𝘋𝘶𝘯𝘦" again

Gives the title a proper typographic treatment even on Twitter.

Script for an aesthetic IG bio

Input
living softly
Output
𝓁𝒾𝓋𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝓈𝑜𝒻𝓉𝓁𝓎

Pairs well with lowercase handles and minimalist profile pics.

Bold italic for emphasis

The double-emphasis conveys urgency without shouting.

About Italics Generator

The Italics Generator converts your normal text into italic Unicode characters and 11 other fancy text styles — all using real Unicode characters that you can copy and paste anywhere. Unlike CSS italic formatting (which only works in specific apps), Unicode italic text uses special characters from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block that look like italic, script, or decorative letters but are technically different characters. This means they work on any platform that supports Unicode: Instagram bios and captions, Twitter/X tweets, Facebook posts, LinkedIn updates, Discord messages, Reddit posts, WhatsApp messages, YouTube comments, and email subject lines. The tool generates 12 simultaneous styles including Sans Italic, Math Italic, Bold Italic, Sans Bold Italic, Script, Bold Script, Fraktur, Bold Fraktur, Double-Struck, Monospace, Circled, and Underlined text. Every style is generated in real-time in your browser — no server calls, no data stood, complete privacy. Italic text is perfect for emphasis in social media posts, elegant Instagram bios, and making your Discord messages stand out. Since these are real Unicode characters, they survive copy-paste across any platform.

Troubleshooting & Common Issues

Discord shows regular italics instead of my Unicode italic

Discord converts `*text*` and `_text_` into Markdown italics before rendering. Wrap your pre-italicized Unicode text with backticks to prevent Discord from re-interpreting it, or use it in fields (usernames, channel names) where Discord Markdown doesn't apply.

Script letters look like regular italic in some apps

Fonts without a proper Mathematical Script glyph fall back to their italic serif shape. iOS and macOS render the characters correctly; older Android versions may not. If consistency matters, choose Sans-Serif Italic instead — it has broader font coverage.

Numbers didn't italicize

Mathematical Italic covers letters only; for italic-style digits, switch to Bold Italic or Sans-Serif Italic, which include `𝟎-𝟗`. Regular Math Italic leaves digits unchanged.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I type italic text on Instagram?

Instagram doesn't have built-in italic formatting, but you can use our Italics Generator to create italic Unicode text that you copy and paste into your Instagram bio, captions, or comments. The italic characters are real Unicode symbols that Instagram displays as italic-looking text on all devices.

Can I use italic text on Twitter/X?

Yes! Twitter/X doesn't support rich text formatting, but Unicode italic text from our generator works perfectly. Simply type your text, click Copy next to the italic style you want, and paste it into your tweet. The Sans Italic and Math Italic styles look best on Twitter/X.

What is the difference between CSS italic and Unicode italic?

CSS italic (font-style: italic) is a formatting instruction that only works in web browsers and apps that support HTML. Unicode italic uses entirely different characters from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block (U+1D608–U+1D63B) that inherently look italic. Unicode italic works everywhere you can paste text — social media, messaging apps, gaming platforms, and email.

Do italic Unicode characters work on Discord?

Yes! While Discord supports *markdown italic* with asterisks, Unicode italic text works in places Discord markdown doesn't — like usernames, server names, and channel descriptions. Our generator provides multiple italic styles that all work perfectly in Discord.

Why don't some characters change to italic?

Some characters don't have Unicode italic equivalents — including most punctuation marks, special symbols, and characters from non-Latin alphabets. When a character has no italic equivalent, the generator keeps it as-is. Letters A-Z and a-z have the best coverage across all italic styles.

What is the script style in the Italics Generator?

The Script style (𝒮𝒸𝓇𝒾𝓅𝓉) uses Unicode Mathematical Script characters that look like cursive handwriting or calligraphy. It's different from italic but commonly grouped with italic styles. Bold Script (𝓑𝓸𝓵𝓭 𝓢𝓬𝓻𝓲𝓹𝓉) is the bolder version — both are popular for elegant social media bios and display names.

How do I make italic text on LinkedIn?

LinkedIn doesn't offer italic formatting in regular posts. Our Italics Generator creates Unicode italic characters that you can paste directly into LinkedIn posts, comments, and your profile headline or summary. This is how creators add emphasis to their LinkedIn content without formatting support.

Is my text stored or tracked?

No. The Italics Generator runs 100% client-side in your browser. Your text is never sent to any server, stored in any database, or tracked in any way. Complete privacy is guaranteed.
